A vast majority of homes are connected to the Internet through a high-speed broadband connection. With the high-speed access comes the same security issues and risks that only businesses used to face. Home computers store all sorts of personal information including photos, medical info, and even accounting software. With the rising threat of identity theft, these are not items you want to get out into the wild. Home wireless networks, left insecure, greatly compound the threat. There are groups that will go "wardriving" or drive through neighborhoods looking for open access points. They then post this information on the internet for anyone and everyone to see. This makes it very easy for someone with less than honorable intent to find your residence and access your files, all from their vehicle in the road. |
